Abstract:

The objective of this study is to survey and determine the species of cockroach in the hospital for the further control. The cockroach survey was carried out in 4 hospitals (A, B, C, and D) by using 20 cockroach traps per place for 3 nights. The traps were brought to a laboratory for counting and identification. The study was conducted once a month during December 1995 - July 1996. The results showed that 2,449 cockroaches were obtained. The average of cockroaches per trap in the hospital A, B, C, and D were 7.4, 3.5, 5.1 and 0.4 respectively. Five species including larval forms were found. They were Blattella germanica, Periplaneta americana, Periplaneta brunnea, Nauphoeta cinerea and Neostylopyga rhombifolia. The density of cockroaches of each hospital was over 1 per trap, therefore, there is a need to control or reduce cockroach population.
